Vinyl Lettering Installation Procedure

First, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol, available at any drug or food store, using a lint free cloth. If using the wet method, get a one quart spray bottle, fill with tap water, and add 2-3 DROPS of Joy liquid detergent. Working in the shade if possible with a cool surface, spray the soap solution on the install area. Next, carefully remove the paper BACKING from the decal, spray the back surface with solution, and place into position. When you have it where you want it, squeegee the decal to squeeze out the water and possible bubbles. Let dry until the application tape on the top surface can be removed without lifting the decal; pulling at a 180 degree angle is best. If the decal starts to lift, squeegee back down and wait longer to dry.

(Note: too much soap in the solution will make drying times longer.)

For bumper decals into molded areas, the dry method is usually best, but the wet method can be used if you're unsure. Line up and position carefully before pressing the decal down, usually with your finger. Then remove the tape top liner by carefully scraping at the edge to lift.

An alternative method for decals is to tape the decal in position, then placing masking tape vertically down the center. Remove one-half of the backing and cut off with a razor knife, then wet the surface and/or the back and squeegee into position. Then, do the same with the other half. This process works best for larger decals or in windy areas.

If any air bubbles remain, using a small pin, stab the bubble and carefully press-out the air/water. Don't press too hard or a wrinkle may be created.
